TR6 Idle Problems Postings

On the failure to get power....everything I've read and experienced always points back to timing problems

I went through a complete carb rebuild only to find that the little ground wire that attaches to the points mounting plate was bad.

I also found out that factory specs on timing settings don't mean much. Each car is different - for instance if the pollution stuff is stripped off the timing needs to be set different.

I suggest going through the complete timing setup carefully....starting with the static procedure. then do the dynamic...with the vacuum line detached. spec says 4degrees ATDC, which is where mine is, but with the vac line on -it's 6 degrees BTDC. spec is a good start point and then do test drives.

There are some good articles in the maintenance section of VTR page and Moss motors that describe procedures to step through timing set up. the main thing is check everything and follow every step.

Does your idle surge ? if it does let me know...that's the grounding problem.

For the rumble problem [he is referring to a rumbling, almost (but not quite) banging noise from what seems to be the muffler after the car has been run, then sat in the cold, and started again within a few hours]....need more info. It could be anything from throw out bearing to rear hubs to wheel bearings to muffler loose.
